GuS: The leader in military periscope technology
For more than four decades, GuS has been specialized in producing periscopes of the highest quality and holds a leading position worldwide in the respective field through continuous research and development.
Thanks to our core competence – the autoclave-based lamination of optical materials – and our many years of experience, we have continuously improved the temperature resistance and durability of our products, especially in the acrylic versions.
Our latest generation of adhesive technology has been successful on the global market for quite some time and has been proved itself many times in customer tests.
Other tested GuS technologies that we manufacture ourselves are heating films, mirrors, laser protection filters, and glass and PMMA components.
GuS military periscopes are maintenance-free.
All periscopes can be delivered with housings made of metal (e.g. aluminum), plastic (e.g. ABS) or combined materials. In addition, we also produce periscopes made of acrylic or glass, depending on the requirements for transmission, weight and climate-resistance.

PERISCOPES REPAIR AND ENHANCEMENT
If a periscope is damaged, repairing is possibly more efficient and cost-effective than completely replacing it. Our specialists identify the damage and repair it in such a way that the periscope continues to meet the original specification.
Also, in many cases, combat value can be improved by plug-and-play solutions. For example, we can install additional laser protection in the desired frequency, integrate a display or supply you with a space-saving folding version. Laser protection
Lasers are used more and more often for target acquisition. If an eye is hit by a laser through a tank periscope, it can be severely injured or blinded. GuS therefore offers laser protection filters that guarantee ideal light transmission while filtering out selected laser wavelengths. You can choose a combination of up to three different wavelength ranges to give your troops the best protection.
- 1-line laser protection filters made of a laser absorbing glass substrate
- 2-line laser protection filters made of a laser absorbing glass substrate coated with a multi-layer interference filter (hybrid laser protection filter)
- 3-line laser protection filters made of a laser absorbing glass substrate coated with two multi-layer interference filters (hybrid laser protection filters) or consisting of a combination of laser absorbing plastic layers, laser absorbing glass substrates and multi-layer interference filters.
Additional protective functions and accessories
- EMC protection – protection from electromagnetic waves penetrating the army vehicle
- Lamellar seals as the ideal protection against water penetration
- Window heaters against condensation and frost provide clear vision at high levels of humidity in the army vehicle or when outside humidity settles on the windows in winter.
- Second field of vision, static or dynamic: By special design of the optical paths in the tank periscope, an additional field of vision can be added.
- Protective covers for tank periscopes are used to protect the crew from head injuries, especially when traveling off-road.
- Blackout covers prevent light from escaping the vehicle, for example during night missions.
- Flip-mirror versions do not only save space, but can also be adjusted to the individual distance between the crew’s eyes and therefore provide more ergonomic flexibility.
We can also protect all outer panes against dirt, reflections or rock strikes using special coating. For example, a desert vehicle with lookout periscopes can be equipped with transparent ceramics that meet the requirements according to MIL-STD-810G, method 510.5 procedure II (sand).
Depending on the customer’s wishes, digital information can also be integrated, e.g. from night-vision devices, such as thermal, infrared or residual-light-amplifier cameras, or other cameras already on board.
Dimensions
The smallest GuS periscope measures only 50 x 20 x 20 mm while up to now our largest is 320 mm high, 1,000 mm wide and 110 mm deep.
